The project implementation entails the installation of 20 smart bikes on 5 locations in the area of the Municipality, which are to be used by the citizens whenever necessary.

The primary objective of the Smart Nextbike 2.0 is the promotion and increase of the usage of bicycles as a means of transportation within the Old Town area.

The project will significantly affect the improvement of the urban mobility of citizens, who will, by using city bikes as a means of transportation, be able to cross short distances in a quick and effective manner within the pilot area, all the while protecting the environment and doing something beneficial for their health. Additionally, the project will have a positive impact on relieving the traffic jams as well as the lack of parking space in the area.

Setting up the city bikes and making them available to the citizens would result in improving the traffic/biking infrasctructure in the Municipality of Old Town.

One important project objective is the reduction of automobile usage, i.e. the CO2 emission which will directly affect the level of pollution in Sarajevo.

The implementation of the project includes identifying the 5 locations where the bicycles will be available for rent and return.

Every registered Nextbike user will be able to rent a bicycle via mobile application on one location, use it for a certain period, and return it on any other Nextbike location within the pilot area or at the same station where it was rented.

The users will be encouraged to use the fixed locations which do not require any subcharge for return. However, the free floating flex zone will be available within the pilot area, where the returns will require an additional subcharge.

Charging stations for electric scooters and electric mobility scooters

The municipality of Stari Grad (Old Town) is the municipality that is the most interesting part of the City Sarajevo. Stari Grad (Old Town) is also the most visited part of town for tourists. This part of the city includes a high number of vehicles daily. Most streets are only allowed for pedestrians. All of this causes great traffic jams, effects on health (stress) and environmental pollution. The construction of charging stations for electric scooters will encourage greater use of electric scooter which do not have a negative impact on the environment and require less area for parking and manoeuvring. The rental of electric scooters would contribute significantly to this, because it is currently very attractive to young people and tourists. Elderly and handicapped persons who use electric scooters would also be a category of population that would use charging stations. This project allows the use of traffic that is popular to the environment.

Reduces the cost of individual transport,

Reduces pollution,

Reduces noise,

Better health and reduced stress,

It increase the popularity of city,

Quick connection all parts of the city,

Increase tourist offer of the city,

Provides mental health handicapped and elderly persons,

Provides independence for psychically handicapped and elderly persons.

It is fantastic opportunity to visit Bascarsija (Old town), charge or rent an electric scooter, go sightseeing, or for example go to swimming pool  in the other part of town without using a bus or tram. This project has impact on several groups of people: young people, working people, retired persons and handicapped persons. That is why this project is especially interesting.

Subproject:

Public urban passenger transport, as well as information relevant to citizens and tourists is an important item in the functioning of the city as a whole. Satisfying the needs of the users means to enable them fast, comfortable, cheap and efficient transportation. Traffic is also one of the biggest problems of cities, especially large cities. The success of solving this problem depends not only on the movement of people and goods, but also on the overall quality of life in the city. The composition of public urban passenger transport consists of transport systems with permanent routes and timetables, publicly available for use with a Tariff fee. As a rule, they contain transport facilities: bus, tram, van, trolleybus, light city rail, cable cars and the like. The problem for citizens and tourists is the lack of information about the lines, the dates of arrival and departure of certain city transport. Transportation to locations that are dislocated from the city center. The city of Sarajevo, as well as BiH itself, is becoming an increasingly important tourist destination for numerous tourists from all over the world, which is of great importance for the city and the state. In order to contribute to the development of tourism and the sustainability of the same, we believe that by unifying various information that is beneficial to tourists and the citizens themselves, the tourism offer is improved. The project is based on the creation of an information desk within the project Ice Garden, which takes place in the city of Sarajevo, the Light Park - Alija Izetbegović Square, from December 11, until 11.01.2020.- 2021, in which we will have different contents for children and adults. Air Quality Monitoring System/ Municipality Stari Grad

The main goal of this project is to contribute to the solution of air pollution in Sarajevo, by setting up diagnostics system and extracting data.

Objective 1: To raise awareness about air pollution and its health hazards.

Objective 2: To collect data on air pollution levels, its sources and making it publicly available.

Objective 3: To propose innovative solutions to protect yourself and reduce air pollution.

This project will develop solutions using hardware and software, which will pinpoint the exact sources of pollution with live-sensor data, measuring data in several locations throughout the municipality of Stari Grad. Data will be collected, analyzed, stored and publicly available to everyone and displayed on mobile phones, a website, embeddable widgets and large-screen displays, with the goal of raising awareness and bringing knowladge to the local community and kickstart the process of identifying solutions to this problem. All data will be available to anyone with an internet connection, with no restrictions.

From the start, any solutions developed will be open-source, i.e. freely available for use by many others worldwide with similar problems and goals. These efforts will be spreadheaded by the young people of Sarajevo, who through the process, will learn how to solve these problems themselves, creating a critical mass of young thinkers and innovators who will contribute to community development in a sustainable and long-term manner.

In sum, we aimed at collecting high quality reliable data, raising awareness in communities through modern technology and media by sharing all data in real-time. The app provides you with comprehensive data and graph trends to give you a deeper understanding of your surroundings, air pollution patterns, and insights into the source of poor air quality as it happens.

The technical solution consists of 3 main components:

1.Outdoor hardware sensors that collect environmental data. Precisely: air temperature, air humidity, air pressure, altitude, PM10, PM2.5 and PM1 data.

Sensors used today in modern cities are measuring more data points with better quality, and are smaller, portable, easier to maintain and friendlier to use. The muasurement data from the sensors will be fed into a shared and public open database and will serve as the basis for creating smart tech solutions towards cleaner air in Sarajevo. The latest technology to measure the smallest, most dangerous PM2.5 and PM1 particles will be applied. Smart sensor kits featuring PM sensors will be placed in 3 public locations ( Sarajevo City Hall, Sarajevo Cable Car - lower station and Municipality Stari Grad building) and 10+ locations of private houses and appartments located at critical pollution points in the municipality Stari Grad. We will be securcing volunteers to host the sensors, teach them all they need to know about pollution, electronics, programming and industrial design and they will build their own air pollution devices in a single day.

2. Cloud software that processes, stores and analyzes live sensors data.

Software will store, process and analyze environmental sensor data in real time.

3. Visualization and management software that presents all data on the web, mobile apps and big screens.

To raise awareness about the pollution levels, information about the main causes of pollution needs to be widely disseminated. All data will be available to anyone with an internet connection, with no restrictions. You could see it on the web, mobile app, notification lamps, your computer, it could be spoken to you by home automation devices, displayed on the small touch screen attached to your walls, or you could build your own creative solution.

In addition, software and hardware designed and developed during this project is created in such a way as to serve as a basis for tackling the same issue in many other cities with the same problem.

Citizens of Sarajevo, in past several years, have increased awareness on the use of fossil fuels and CO2 emissions and advocate decrement of their use. Furthermore, experts in expert’s study’s claim that one of the clean air problems in Sarajevo is unreliable city transport. Major problem occurring in current city bus services (CENTROTRANS and GRAS) is that passengers are not informed about the exact time that bus will arrive/departure, but only know the previously scheduled arrival time. Various reasons that people take bus instead of their own vehicle (traffic jam, heavy parking fee, lack of parking slot, clan air awareness and etc.). Public bus service, run on a specific timetable giving specific time of departure and arrival at waypoints along the route. Such system is often difficult to maintain due to the event of traffic congestion, breakdowns, on/off bus incidents, road blockages or bad weather. For the most of users this is disturbing fact, since they cannot plan departure and arrival to the point of interest. Sarajevo city is fastest growing tourist point and where Old part of city is one of the spot of interest, public transportation represents the need. City bus transportation service has very poor transportation information system. In comparison with train/flight transportation systems, bus transportation service does not have a proper system to track all buses position on the terrain (In real time), this lead to the blockage of the data delivery of the actual arrival time on every bus stop. Currently, bus system service in city Sarajevo do not have real time tracking technology to track on each bus on the road or a platform to update latest bus traffic information to bus users. Such system and poor management leads to the decrease of users, every day. For example, students are one of the main users of public transport system because the main objective of bus tracking system is to provide estimated bus arrival time for student. The student must able to retrieve real time estimated bus arrival time for every bus stop. While waiting in bus stop, student able to access bus tracking system with mobile device instead. With this mapping technique, student able to know where is a bus position based on the map in real time.

The current use of public transportation as well as the techniques used to optimize this service is not enough for the increased number of people who need to go from one place to other every day. According to preliminary research data in the Municipality of “Stari Grad” of Sarajevo there are 34 bus and mini bus lines. Currently, in the Municipality of “Stari Grad” live 38,911 inhabitants and most of them are users of public transport on these lines. Data available to the public are weekly bus schedule with time of departures from start bus stations while data on current bus locations are not available. Such system through time has becomes inflexible for most users and there is an evident increase in the use of personal vehicles for the transport.

Sarajevo is well-known for its traffic jams (approx. 30- 45 min ), which among other effects prolong commutes and complicate the scheduling of public transportation. In an effort to improve public transportation services, NGO STEP initiate project „Next Bus“ as part of Smart City Sarajevo. The project is part of efforts to support and advance the Government’s data-driven policy and practice strategies. Among different aspects of a Smart city, mobility and efficient transportation are an everyday problem in an intelligent city, considering that there is an increasing number of traffic on the streets and pollution rates.

The „Next Bus“ is an pilot project in Sarajevo to approach those challenges, providing information that facilitates user´s decision-making when using public transportation. The application is oriented to offer a more efficient service for the local residents in a small-scale view and could bring great benefits for the state government in a big-scale, offering better services to all citizens combining the information of all public transportation services.

SAY NO TO GERMS IN PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Public transportation is the "host" of a large number of dangerous bacteria and other microorganisms that are transmited both by the touch and by the air. For example in the Canton Sarajevo region in year 2019, 77 patients died from the flu which can be transmited by droplet route during coughing, sneezing and indirect contact, when the respiratory secretion of the diseased comes to the hand, wiped and consewuently the other surfaces. EU legislation states: "Sampling of the enviroment can be a useful tool to identify and prevent the presence of pathogenic microorganisms". Risk of cross contamination is extremly high in piblic transport. This is one of the main reasons why the majority of citizens of Sarajevo avoid using public transportation in everyday commute to work, for instance. As a consequence of this, a large number of personal vehicles is in the use which cause large traffic jams and increased air pollution in the city of Sarajevo, which is one of the three city challenges. According to World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates, the highest number og deaths caused by airborne diseses in Europe is in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is also ranked second in worldwide scale, just behind North Korea.

The aim of this project proposal is to increase reliability of middle income population to public transporation by using new smart innovative technology as game chaner of public transportation service. During 4 months period selected vehicles will be trated with new smart innovative antimicrobial technology that enables protection of 99.99% of microorganisms up to 21 days. This approach will have contribute in solving 2 city challanges:

1. Public transportation - Citizens are more likely to use public transportation if clean and safe enviroment is ensured. This will decrease percentage og cross contamination especially during flu periods.

2. Air pollution - Increased reliability in public transportation means less cars in traffic what will decrease percentage of Air pollution, especially during winter season.

Following the good example og London Underground, introduction of this innovative antimicrobial technology will allow Sarajevo to become the first city in the Region who implemented smart city solution in public transportation. It will be antoher step for transformation Sarajevo to SMART Sarajevo.

The aim of the project is to identify and categorize urban greenery in order to digitize them. DIgitalization is important for better control and damage prevention of the existing greenery but also so for planning future intervention. By calculating leaf surface, i.e. by inspecting the quantity and quality of urban greenery of the 2 km2 area of municipality Stari Grad, it is possible to determine the existing state, deficienties and future steps in preserving the urban ecosystems. In this case, through the clear numbering of certain categories already identified, it is possible to analyze them in many ways and obtain data that are crucial in the future planning, maintenance, rehabilitation and construction of urban greenery. In the short term such efforts allow cities to better maintain their cities trees and plan new ones. In the long term this is the foundation for various initiatives related to everything from air pollution and public health to climate change and reducing CO2 emissions.

The objectives of this project/study are to check and collect general data about the greenery in the area of 2 m2 in the municipality Stari Grad; to collect various other data related to the greenery; to carry out various activities for developing the basic data; to digitize the data and to create web page for this data.  Lack of information leads to the decay and decrease of the plant stock and extinction of valuable biophones that are of multiple importances. During tree inventories for municipalities, institutions, large estates, and the like, knowing tree locations will help managers properly care for a property's plants. When surveying rural roads, nature parks, and hiking trails, managers need to identify and locate hazard trees.  Due to rapid urbanization in developing world, city administrators and urban planners are challenged with problems in delivering basic services like green space, sanitation, water supply, transportation, and primary health center. The urban green spaces’ coverage is not adequate to meet people’s needs due to population pressure, expansion of industry, and construction in the process of urbanization.  The meaning of the green space system has also been continuously emerging with the development of city theory, which mainly encompasses horticultural, ecological, and spatial meanings.

GIS has the main role in land-use suitability analysis for green space.  Older specimens should be protected for use value in breeding and further selection of planting material for further cultivation of city greenery. Information on age and use gives us important data on further valorization and treatment of plant species in urban areas. Benefits of digitization are reflected in timely information about the state of urban greenery, potentials, needs for supplementation and enrichment of biophones. Information on the health condition of trees will serve as a recommendation for rehabilitation. Attention will be given to abiotic harmful effects, snowfall and mechanical damage to trees, as the initial factors of destabilization of their health. It is important to have this information because the importance of urban greenery is reflected in a various way as ambient ecological educational hygienic and health value.  Urban planners have to visualize such growth during planning, policy, and de- cision-making. Impulsive construction of unplanned informal houses in and outside the administrative boundaries of towns and cities is common in developing countries. These insightful changes cause a change in land use type which makes urban planning foreseeable.

Data will be collected using GPS technology along with software Arc GIS for digitalization and using Visual Tree Assessment methodology. Data on urban greenery of the 2 m2 (municipality Stari Grad) almost do not exist in the communal enterprise. Because of this, we will carry out on-field inventory and photosets. On-field inventory of the greenery will be done using GPS technology. For the purpose of this project the GPS tracker will be needed. The paper data for the general urban plan and the cadastral data will be scanned and digitized using the software Arc GIS. The GPS receiver is used to collect points for an entire GIS map; this can be accomplished without any aerial photographs or other line and symbol maps to serve as a base map in the GIS. For example, someone collecting data can trace the outline of buildings and parking lots, walk any roads and trails, and take points for trees, signs, and other landmarks. Once the data are in the GIS, the lines and points can be tidied up to improve the visual quality, using different symbols for each landmark. A GIS can produce a simple line and symbol map from the GPS information sufficient for areas with adequate landmarks and where other maps are unavailable. Along rural roads or hiking trails, where maps do not exist and landmarks are scarce, it is possible to walk or drive with a GPS receiver and collect positions for hazard trees and the trails or roads to create a map showing trees that need to be removed.

After collecting and digitizing data and putting online in form of an open source platform, plan is to have this research as a case study presented to the public institutions such as municipalities (Department for Urbanism and Planning), City of Sarajevo, Cantonal Institute for Urbanism, Spatial Planning and Protection of Cultural and Historical Heritage etc. The goal is to encourage the public institutions to use affordable and available technologies in their practice for more accurate and transparent results and more efficient planning.

Defined challenge of this project are these key checkpoints: -environmental, public transporatation and eco tourism improvement - reducing traffic jams in period from 07:00-9:30 am and 15:00-17:30 pm -ease public trasportation and less time consumption for traveling from one to other destination - easy reachable parking spots and easy recharge

Most affected citizens are in most populated parts od our city, aswell due to rising numer of tourists every year and migrant crisis, transportation system is overloaded mostly in summer period. Public transportation is unbearable, and every local communities are affected. This projest would ease home to work traveling, school traveling, tourist city tours, and publuc transportation in general. Transportation & environmental benefits : Needless to say that electric moped will be affordable public transportation, they are best when it comes to choosing alternative mode of transportation. You don't have to depend upon fuel as these mopeds run on battery, mopeds have limited speed as compared with traditional bikes. Therefore, there is no or minimal licensing requirements. Kids safety is of prime importance, and electric moped have different safety features. For example, almost every moped has hand-operated acceleration control along with rare brake. Because of their compact design and small size, these mopeds can be parked in a small space. Alternatively, you can carry an electric moped with you, instead of parking. In busy cities, time is the issue and these sleek vehicles can help you save a lot of time on the road. They're portable and can access anywhere, so, you will have no trouble taking a short cut through the city, a shopping mall or a park. You just need to recharge the batteries for a given amount of time, and that's it. Your moped will save your precious time otherwise spent in heavy traffic, gas stations and parking lots. Think green, breathe clean air, use sustainable source of power. Drive new public transportation electric mopeds

The Green Mobility Project represents a necessary, if ambitious, attempt to help bring Sarajevos urban transport in line with European and global trends by introducing a ridesharing option in the form of electricity-powered mopeds. Sarajevo is presently one of Europes most polluted capitols with air quality reaching record lows over the past several years. In addition, the citys urban core has become increasingly congested and existing parking space is nowhere near sufficient to deal with all the incoming trafic.

the Project aims to test viability of a gradual reduction in the number of drivers venturing into town with their private vehicles and instead using electricscooters on a ride share basis. For the purposes of the pilot project phase, the charging station will be located at the BBI square to enable motorists to pick up their mopeds where they can easily find parking for their vehicles before venturing further into town therby reducing the number of vehicles entering the citys Old Town.

Should the Projects testing phase garner the expected results, the subsequent large-scale introduction of electric mopeds into the urban transport network will help greatly alleviate: CO2 emissions caused by internal combustion engines; noise pollution in urban areas; parking and traffic congestion that have become a commonplace occurrance, especially in downtown areas. in addition, mopeds are an excellant asset for urban tourism with electric powered varieties especially popular with the increasing environmentally minded tourist community.

Smart Impact – impact measurement as a service

Smart Impact is impact measurement as a service for measuring air quality levels (from deployed devices around the city), reporting of different issues (corruption, traffic issues, congestions, accidents, etc) and prediction of events (spreading of pollution, traffic jams, flows). The idea is to provide impartial evidence that something is happening using compliance level detection and transparency mechanism over the public dashboard. The air quality monitoring technology (from commercial solution) will be facilitated to built service together with citizens and other relevant stakeholders during co-creation workshops.

After software adaptation and development of pollution prediction algorithm, we will execute pilot in the city to engage citizens and evaluate outcomes.

Sarajevo City LoRa WAN network - Improving air quality in schools

here are a lot of different sensors available on the market which can collect different data and send to central data warehouse for analysis and reporting. Based on information provided by these sensors different IT Smart City solutions can be implemented and address different difficulties in peple's life in modern city. Most sensors are almost maintenance-free, powered by batteries and very easy to install. In order to get data from these sensors we data simple, reliable network. Answer to this problem is LoRa WAN. It is implemented in most capitals around the world, there are few implementations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but this infrastructure is not available to citizens and companies in Sarajevo, the capital and biggest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Typical solution that uses LoRa Network is monitoring environment conditions (temperature, humidity, air quality). Our proposal is to implement these sensors in elementary schools in municipality Stari Grad Sarajevo with the following challenge, root cause and impact:

Challenge - improving air quality in public elementary schools and later in all schools and educational institutions

Root causes - low awareness regarding the air quality in public schools and the impact it has on public health

Impact - Bringing up awareness, through independent real-time air quality measurement, and making the data publicly available. The solution will raise awareness and drive necessary reform in health monitoring in public schools.

-    Cijeli opisani proces traje oko 4 sekunde.

CarShare

Our main challenge are crowds in public transport, especially in the morning, on working day, caused of the residents who don’t have own cars. These citizens are experiencing stress every morning because of a potential delay in work.

On the other hand, residents who have they own cars, they drive by car themselves to the destination mostly alone and this practice lead to creating of car columns and slowing down traffic. That increases their expenses for fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It is not negligible even the problem of lack of parking space.

For residents using a taxi, expenses are pretty high. Using CarShare platform this kind of residents will be able to share their costs and that will lead better exploration of this kind of transportation.

The CarShare will allow residents to share the ride not only with everyone but with people of certain characteristics (sex, smoker or not, number of age, Majers-Brigs type of personality, etc.), which will lead to a reduction in the crowd and saving money.

It works on the following way: The user through the smart phone inputs in the system driving information:  -    Route of travel -    Period of travel  -    Description of a person he likes to share a ride with (e.g. gender, years, smoker or not) -    Information is he planning to share a taxi or own car, or maybe who is looking for driver to enjoy and share ride with -    General notes, e.g. wants to jointly cover fuel costs and parking.

Once the user inputs the application data, he automatically shares transportation details with other users who are using the same route in the same period and who could be potential partner in ride.

When a user found another member to car share with, starts to use the anonymous messaging system (using free channels such as e-mail, Viber, Skype, Facebook) to arrange with potential “CarShare Partner” how and when they will meet.

Once users accepted the request to share, they’re starting their “CarShare Partnership”. If users cannot agree regarding to the terms of drive, they can start looking for a new “CarShare Partner”.

The goal of the project is to develop a smart urban planning tool that can be applied anywhere. The Applicant intends to test the Tool at the most problematic areas of Sarajevo affected by the construction of highrise buildings. The pilot area can cover any section from Vijecnica to Marijin Dvor. The Applicant suggests the Marijin Dvor area as a pilot, given that the Applicant has already generated important background datafor the location (map, 3D model, wind direction map). Generating such data is long-lasting and costly, while at the same time the duration of the project is limited to a few months (ending December 2019). Although the Applicant is fully aware of the proposed 2 km2 pilot-city area of Stari Grad the usability of the tool can best be illustrated in the Marijin Dvora area, which was already affected by the construction of highrise buildings, while at the same time, according to the recently proposed draft urban plan, several highrise buildings are planned. The impact on air quality caused by these high-rise buildings will be most felt in Stari grad. This problem has attracted the attention of the public involved in public hearings where opposition to construction was voiced (Urban Plan Hastahana, Urban Plan Marijin Dvor-kvadrant C). Nevertheless, the Tool can be still be applied in the 2 km2 pilot area in case UNDP and the beneficiary do not accept the Marijin Dvor area for pilot testing.

The Applicant intends to develop a scalable smart urban planning tool that models impacts on air quality based on changes in land use pattern or modes of transportation. Complex equations and computer simulations in the CFD environment will be visualized, and the result of the simulation will be easily understandable by the decision-makers and citizens. We intend to provoke a change in the behaviour of both decision makers and citizens.

Moreover, in addition to the smart urban planning tool, the applocant plans to develop a multiple choice and easy-to-use IT tool that will enable the analysis of citizens' expectations related to changes  in land use and transport modes. The questions in this tool are expected to provoke a new way of thinking assessing how many citizens are willing to contributein reducing the air pollution? Through social networks and a touch screen installed in a public place, the Applicant will share the application to provoke the citizens to think out of the box. This  will be complemented with a video animation that illustrates the genesis of a PM particle, its path to the human body and its consequences for human health.  The focus of the project is on the institutions responsible for spatial planning and transport. The Applicant intends to equip these institutions with a proper tool for analysingsolutions related to spatial planning and transport in the context of air quality. A smart tool should provide answers to how the construction of a new settlement or high buildings affects the quality of air and urban ventilation corridors, or how an increase inthe length of pedestrian corridors impacts air quality (or for example how the construction of a green corridor impacts air quality, etc.). Through reliable evidence based simulations, decision-makers will better understand the causes of the issues, thus making sound and informed decisions. The simulation will be based on a pilot area contained in the Urban Plan. The tool is also applicable to crisis management: The effects of an eventual decision to ban the transport of private vehicles in certain areas during the winter high-pollution episodes can be simulated and tested. The project idea, the simulation results and public opinion poll will be communicated based on an appropriate  communication strategy. The Applicant intends to combine different communication approaches, including focus groups.

Sarajevo City public transport sucks and we all know it. What else we know is that we can make it better together. One of the good things that this network has is its stations. Tram, trolleybus and bus stations are very much an asset ready to be explored and used. Imagine station that gives you more than just a shelter. The one that gives you security, information on demand, free access to Internet, location and guidance and many more and above all that is designed and produced with newest existing technologies. This is what we call FUTURE STATION.

FUTURE STATION is digitally and parametrically designed station which is produced in 3D printing technologies from recycled PET bottles. It is a place where you can get source of energy which is harvested form the sun and form peoples activity. It is a place which will give you sign how to prepare yourself for upcoming day with weather information or status of air pollution in the very same place. Place where tourists can find their direction by browsing local maps or just by having access to free Wi-Fi. This is FUTURE STATION.

In this way, we keep plastic waste out of our homes, our rivers, our oceans, our ground. Learn how to manage waste, upcycle and in a manner, get ourselves a free ride by collecting plastic bottles and giving them to be shreded and turned into physical object. In this way we tackle the public transport system to become better and more efficient by gathering data on the number of trips, peak times, traffic congestions and other and implementing that data in improving public transport.

Implementing another types of technologies we can expand the use of our local bus stop and make it information point for not only daily users but for the whole city, the city of Sarajevo.

Welcome to the FUTURE STATIONž

We want to develop all inclusive, open source, open data platform collecting indicative air quality data hourly, to gather data from all available sources for different  pollutants, and from the future sources that are under development in testing Old Town municipality area. All data will have levels of validation based on testing sensors next to government stations with cooperation with our partners.

All current and historic data on our platform will feed our own application but will be offered to everybody else to do their own applications, public displays, cross-reference analysis, and will be fed to global openaq.org. For example, cross-referencing our historical data with historical atmospheric data and industry intensity will enable creating the predictive algorithms, so important for life planning for the citizens that belong to the vulnerable groups.

On the platform we will include instructions on how to create a low cost measuring station or IoT based on Arduino and  Raspberry Pi, that can be created by individuals or as a school science projects, or how and where  to get some of the readymade solutions like Air Quality Egg and similar and how to register those devices with us and get the geotag on a map.

To increase the coverage and accuracy of air pollution data, CPI Foundation and Green Machine team were working with CityOs Air and assembling ”Boxy” devices that are capable of measuring PM1, PM2.5, PM10, temperature, and humidity. These ”Boxy” devices are extremely affordable home radar solution, however they offer limited measurements and have board tolerances in regards to the measured results. Another prototype was constructed with a local engineering firm Systech in Sarajevo that tested an accurate sensor capable of providing reliable air pollution data. This prototype is significantly higher cost to build, still being 100 times cheaper than official government station or any other high quality sensor on market since it was completely built from scratch, and calibrated in Metallurgy Institute Kemal Kapetanovic in Zenica and  Sarajevo and not just modulated by bought components. It was calibrated in cooperation with HMZ i MI and proven to provide the most reliable data for the proposed platform.

Another modular station is being constructed by Green Machine Team. It's called Pi. The design fully assembled will measure SO2, NO2, CO, O3, PM2.5, PM10, temperature, and humidity. The modularity of the design will allow less sensors to be used if required. The design will utilise a Raspberry Pi as to provide a good capability to expand the project in the future to include other measurements and features such as wind speed, wind direction, remote connectivity, and solar powered operation. The design will be calibrated against an air pollution station utilising an approved reference method in order to improve measurement accuracy. The design will be capable of uploading result immediately to an external database so results can be viewed in real time. The design will be entirely open source. Further additions to the design, such as cellular connectivity, and wind speed and direction sensors will be designed to use the Raspberry Pi USB connections. Scope for the sensor station being solar and battery powered will be explored.

In creating relevant and evidence based information we want to create mash up data with: -Government data ( data from  stations measuring: PM10, ozone (O3), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO) )

-Sensors developed and tested through cooperation with Systech company, will measure PM2.5, PM10, ozone (O3) and carbon monoxide (CO) with great reliability, confirmed by the parallel work with professional equipment (graphs available on request). They will also measure sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) but their reliability and margin of error are still not confirmed and  will not be shown untill it is verified

 - homebrewe sensors ( for example PM, CO, NO2, UV light, air pressure, humidity, and temperature )  CPI modular air quality station Pi with the ability to measure all pollutants required to calculate an AQI, Pi measuring unit

SmART Theatre

What would you like to happen in the (near) future in relation to digital technology and theatre?

Obviously, since we are so used to interact with so many people in daily life (and often all over the world on social media channels), the one-way communication from the stage to the auditorium or from the theatre offices to the spectator’s letterbox seems to be out of time. Instead, the participants are anticipating to let the audience make choices, let them become part of the happening on stage using digital devices.

SmART Theatre is merging the trends of digitisation and participatory theatre. It plays with augmented reality, 360° video, gaming elements and an app-guided city walk. The participatory approach brings theatre directly into the community. In a dystopian fairy tale about a future city, the audience is asked to explore their city interactively and make decisions about the question in which world they want to live in 2060. And what will happen in the next 40 years. We want to challenge the peoples’ perspective on the city challenges via this participatory platform and raise awareness. The audience meets in a black box and encounters three actors from 2060, each of whom represents a challenge for the next forty years.

In Sarajevo, a lot of city’s energy expenditure go to street lighting. When times are lean, energy efficiency is becoming increasingly important. The aim is also to keep maintenance costs under control. Investing in energy-saving measures with intelligent street lighting therefore seems a logical step, but the current situation is often forgotten in this respect. Even the transition to LED lighting is still not an obvious development, but it could be assumed as a first step forward.

Our project revolved around Smart Public Lighting System, aims to decrease the power consumption, decrease air pollution and decrease the light pollution with the goal of improving public service delivery, i.e. street lightning and help address the priority city challenges - air and light pollution. Beside primary benefits, there are many secondary and tertiary benefits of the Smart Public Lighting System implementation. The collected data could be defined as an Open Data licensed what means that the data or at least some part of them could be publish and made available to analyze from the third-party subject including many upcoming start-ups related with new and smart ICT-based solution in hardware and software topics what directly effects the entrepreneurship ecosystem and effects the economic growth in the City.

Planned activities:

1. Vision and Mission, Business Model, Analysis, Strategy, Action Plan (4 weeks) In this very early stage of the project, it is necessary to define long-term mission and vision of the project, to create the business model which proves financial savings and sustainability of the project after the pilot project stage. For this, we will purchase 30 Smart Citizens kits to enable us to monitor air quality in the defined project locations. These devices will be given out to citizens to whom we will deliver a brief training on how to install and maintain. In parallel, it should analyze existing situation with active Public Lighting system in the City with focus on the area of the implementation this pilot project. All pre-action should be incorporated into the Strategy with clear conclusion after analyzing current situation and defined short-term and long-term goals. As a last step, defined goals should be turn into action in successive steps (in parallel or one-by-one or combined). The findings and conclusions will be discussed with local communities.

2.    Developing Prototype (5 weeks) In this phase of the project, activities are focused on technical part of the solution, for hardware and software part of the system. Hardware is designed as a box which includes communications subsystem to ensure connectivity for data transfer and sensors subsystem for measurements and monitoring predefined objects of interests. This box has to contain controller part to enable remote management and automatic actions if condition(s) are met. Software part is the heart of the System and it is not only place for store data (what is the primary goal for the pilot project) but also this tool has to be upgradable to “smart” Big Data analytics for acquiring the deep knowledge, profiling the citizens habits, optimizing the system working regime as a trade-off between intensity of light (to meet quality of service expectations from citizens) and power consumption. The number of dimming levels for the System and time cycle length for any position in the working regime is going to be optimized in the running system during the phase Testing and Verification.

3.    Implementation of the Pilot Project (5 weeks) This phase of the project understands implementation of this solution in the real public street lighting system, what means physical installation of the equipment, establishing real-time communications between all remote nodes to the final destination point called “data center” which understands at least one independent server equipped with proper software for acquiring, storing, classifying, analyzing data and making optimal decision for the action or to react on received data which means proper trigger for changing working regime.

4.    Testing and Verifying (2 weeks) In this phase, the System is running, and it should be verified that all components of the System working properly and giving expected results. It is the phase when the System designer can run the System in the extreme condition to verify the working range and to be able to predict possible misfunctions in the future. After these 2 weeks, the System designer can acquire first overview of the System efficiency and total effect in energy saving and other project goals.

5.    Full Operating System with Data Collection (2 weeks) Once when the System is tested and verified that it meets the project goals and proper level of quality, the System becomes the part of the Smart Public Lighting system and full control of the System can be delivered to the City government and other stakeholders.

6.    Project Conclusion with Future Direction and Potential for Development (2 weeks) Final stage of the project analyzes of the total effect of the implementation. It should be underline what is new and where the System made improvements compare to conventional one which is used before. In this phase, the System has to prove its sustainability defined in the business model. After first observation, the System is developed in some level and it has to be considered possible future upgrade and possibilities for additional updates to improve efficiency and increase total effect on the Quality of Life. This has to be measured by proper metrics which has to involve the objective parameters from the collected data but also subjective ones from the citizens who are affected by the new system. The findings and conclusions will be discussed with local communities.ore stakeholders in very short period of time.

The project proposed by Deloitte d.o.o. Sarajevo will focus on an existing parking - a widely popular parking in the city centre, Trg Austrije, operated by the public parking company. The idea is based on the following solution: sensors are placed at the entrance and exit of the parking, for accurate detection when a ar enters or leaves the parking. Based on that information, the number of free parking spots can easily be calculated, having in mind the information that the total number of parking spaces is 51 (as per results of on-site examination). Thus, the information on free parking spots can be stored in a central location and thus via different channels can be easily distributed to citizens. In order to see at all times the free parking spots and plan where to park, it is planned to create a mobile application that is accessible to everyone, both Sarajevo citizens and tourists. Timely information on lack of parking spaces for those heading to the city centre will envourage citizens to travel by alternative means *public transport, etc.).

Our proposal is set on reducing the dreadful traffic congestion in the central business district of Sarajevo by attacking the root cause of the issue and working to improve the public transportation system and reduce air pollution all in one. By introducing a high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane to the heart of our city and amplifying flow of vehicles in it, we aim to decrease the total amount of cars in the area by putting in place strategic organisational measures. With a lower volume of cars in the pilot city area, we anticipate less traffic congestion, enhanced public transportation options, better accessibility, reduced parking challenges, and an improvement in air quality.

A HOV lane is, in essence, a designated lane only open to public transport vehicles, cars with 3 or more passengers, taxis, cars with handicapped labels, and emergency vehicles. We will include electric vehicles in the HOV late to promote clean, sustainable and energy-efficient cars in the city.

For registered users, information on the air pollution extreme values and temperatures will be announced and delivered to the smartphones through Viber application. During the low AQI (Air Quality Index) users will be also notified once in a month with a motivation phrase for moving out without cars and promoting healthy lifestyle. With proper information citizens will decrease their outdorr activities in case of high level of air pollution. Particularly in the focus of the project will be young people and elderly population.

At least twice a month, during the implementation phase, depending on AQI, the project implementation team will organise outdoor activities for platform end users (running, walking, yogam riding bikes, etc.) with the aim to promote healthy lifestyle and increaseing visibility of the project.

In order to raise awareness if the environmental topic, educational workshops and educational publications will be held and published, in order to inform and influence social inclusion of the citizens in lowering households impact on air pollutant emissions.

The proposal of ALEM Sistem, d.o.o. will create a software platform (Neptun) for all existing and future solutions for Sarajevo as a smart city.

All applications, such as for monitoring air quality, public transport, etc. will be consolidated and displayed on this single platform. The data centre will be located in Sarajevo. The platform will allow for other existing air quality monitoring systems to integrate so that citizens of Sarajevo have clear picture of the air quality in the city at all times. SO if you see on the app that air is bad, you do not go out, or you do to the mountain. This will be available, because you will also have data of metereological conditions on the mountain offered by the application. The project will also integrate GPS application for monitoring of the public buses in the Municipality of Stari Grad. We will also develop an Android application so that people can havepresentation of the data on the web page, as well as notifications on their phones.

Introduction of Environmentally-Friendly Buses Into Public Urban Transport

The main project objective is to contribute to reduction of emissions of exhaust gases emitted by a bus in public urban transport, due to the fact that CNG engines use less polluting emissions of fuel compared to diesel engines, and therefore the pollution of the environment is less, with positive effects on the health of the population. In addition to reducing the harmful emissions of exhause gases, the goal is also to improve the service offered to citizens by using more modern busses.

The project aims to purchase and set in function two buses fueled by natural gas.
